Your Personal Trainer develops a program with your specific needs, interests, and possible fitness limitations in mind. You will never feel that there is a one size fits all approach to our methods.

ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Robin Fontaine, a certified Personal Trainer and Spartan SGX coach. I’m passionate about fitness and can honestly say that obstacle course racing has changed my life. Throughout high school and college, I ran cross country and track. Fast forward to a busy career as a Civil Engineer and a daily lifestyle which didn’t support a healthy life. A group from my office started daily runs along a trail behind our office. I joined them and this reignited my joy of running and joining others in their fitness journey. This was the piece that I had been missing since my college team. Next, I found obstacle course racing (OCR). I discovered you could stop running to conquer some physical obstacle and this was all part of the race! I was HOOKED! The challenge of not knowing what the obstacles were and having to figure them out when you got to them was so intriguing to my engineering mind. I was driven to get better and gain as much knowledge as I could. This led to my Personal Training certification and then my Spartan SGX certifications (Level 1, Level 2, and, of course, the Obstacle Specialist certification).

I have been a client of Robin for the last 6 yrs.  Originally, I started training so that I could run a Spartan Race.  I was concerned about getting injured.  I have since completed several obstacle courses/events without injury. Robin trains clients for specific events/obstacles but also overall fitness so that no matter what they encounter, the skills are there to complete the course.  Robin starts by understanding the client’s goals and determining their level of fitness.  She makes a plan to help the clients reach those goals working in the gym, or in homes, with small groups or one on one sessions, providing a flexible schedule.

Robin provides a calm inviting atmosphere, with just the right amount of enthusiasm. She is a great motivator, helping clients reach their personal best. She has a special skill in finding just the right exercise that makes the client work just a little harder and knows how far to push the client helping them to reach the next level of fitness.

 I have been working out with Robin for almost 3 years and it has been the best years of my life. When I first met Robin, it had been a while since I had worked out and I was in a slump. Robin quickly pulled me out of my slump and started to encourage me to do exercises that I had never thought my body was capable of.  With a severe knee injury and tendonitis in my forearms, Robin is always able to modify my workouts for me. I started training with Robin at Focused Fitness in January of 2016.  My goal was to better my overall body fitness, which I wasn’t getting from the activities I enjoyed engaging in.  Robin went through a detailed physical assessment process, asked me what my goals were, and what I was willing to do to achieve them.  She developed workouts that were as challenging as they were varied.  Where I used to be “in shape” because I engaged in say running or biking, I can now say that thanks to Robin’s training my entire body gets a workout.  There are no cookie-cutter workouts with Robin and they continually change.  Twice in the last four years, I suffered sports injuries that were going to require surgery.  I told Robin, I didn’t want to lose the momentum while awaiting the surgeries, and both times she developed programs to work around the injury and then post-surgery developed workouts that dovetailed with my physical therapy.    She brings a professional engineering background to her personal training so everything is always well-thought-out.  If you are wondering about the benefits of a particular exercise, just ask and you’ll get a detailed explanation. She’ll also get you engaged with others that she trains and help collectively to push your limits, watch out for the Terrain races. But I think most importantly she takes a real interest in each client and really cares about her clients and making sure they succeed. The relationship doesn’t stop when your workout ends. I mean what other trainer would bring you a bang-up chicken chili while you are recovering from hand surgery in the hospital.  She’s a great trainer and even better friend. I highly recommend her.
